About CityU

City University of Hong Kong is one of eight government-funded degree-granting tertiary institution which was established as a university in 1994. The vision of university is to become a leading global university, excelling in a professional education and research. The mission is “to ensure and develop the talents of students and to create applicable knowledge in order to support social and economic advancement”. By emphasizing on professional education and research, the university produces graduates with capability to precipitate and anticipate any changes in a globalised and rapid-evolving world. The University’s education philosophy inspires their students to make a genuine finding with support via learning, funding and state-of-the-art technology. Their unique Discovery-enriched Curriculum immerses students in the processes that lie behind every innovation and discovery, developing the critical skills required for today’s globalised job market.

In recent years, CityU has done great improvement in university rankings making it among top 10 in Asia and the top 100 in the world. The university has four colleges and four schools: The College of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Science and Engineering, Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, School of Creative Media, School of Energy and Environment, School of Data Science, and School of Law.

Research Culture in CityU

Research is one the major aspects in CityU’s strategy to become one of the leading universities. CityU puts heavy emphasis on applied research. The results of these research directly benefits Hong Kong and beyond. Applied Strategic Development Centres help to transfer the outcomes of applied research to industry and to foster university-industry partnership. CityU has founded 2 Research Institutes, 20 Research Centres, and 7 Applied Strategic Development Centres in certain areas of strategic importance to provide focus for and foster multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary research. The University has also attained approval from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China to launch one Chinese National Engineering Research Centre and two State Key Laboratories at CityU.
